APJ Presidential Library

Hi,
We are here to request the President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam to set up a 'Public Library'(not government, but public) as his legacy to the nation.

Concept:
APJ Presidential Library will be a stand-alone public Library (not government). It will be a legacy of President APJ Abdul Kalam. Among other material it will also make the various writings, speeches and other documents(including audio and video) of APJ Abdul Kalam's tenure as president to the public.

Stand-alone is important, as we don't want it to be a part of any established govt./pvt. university or campus. This is essential in order to insulate it from the prevalent culture in higher education. It will allow it to develop its own culture.

The concept is similar (as some may say 'borrowed') from the practice followed by presidents of USA. Its good to follow good practices.

HOW IT WILL BE FUNDED?
Being a public Library (not govt.) , members of the public, common folks like you and me will make doantions to the Library for its functioning.


WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
OBJECTIVES:
1) Propagate the vision and ideas of President APJ Abdul Kalam amongst future generations.

2) Ideally, this should start a trend among the leaders of this country for creating public Libraries.
Currently leaders (politicians/business men/sports etc) donate to the temples or to NGOs.

3) Instill a culture of education and learning among the common people.
3.1) Enhance role of libraries in daily life of common man. A house wife, or say a autorickshaw driver, this library will welcome them and assist them in learning more.


4) To Inspire ordinary folks to donate to libraries instead of temples/ churches/ mosques or any other religious institutions or godmen.

5) Library are Temples of Learning and donations to Public Libraries should get same tax benefits as donations to religious bodies.

WHERE WILL THIS BE LOCATED?
APJ Abdul Kalam will decide that. We would request it should be in a small town, rather than in big cities.

HOW SHOULD I CONTRIBUTE?
Mail to the president with requesting that him to 'set up APJ Presidential Library'.

A LOT OF INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE IN GOVT. LIBRARIES (OR ON LINE), WHY DO WE NEED THIS LIBRARY?
This library is about giving information to people who are away from the internet.
Most of the Indians, for obvious reasons don't wish to go to government libraries.

WILL THIS REALLY HAPPEN?
Honestly, I don't know, but I am pretty confident that 'APJ Presidential Library' will be a reality soon.

HOW TO PAY/DONATE?
The president will give the details.
I am not asking/taking any money by chq/cash/credit card so don't contact me to pay or volunteer.

CAN I BE A VOLUNTEER?
Many of us would like to give our personal, professional and monetary assistance to the President, if he asks for it. As of now, we have no comments on this.
